That night, he drove his Dino up the driveway half an hour before I was due to leave for work, a little before seven. Char pressed herself against the window and gasped before she ran through the house at top speed toward her bedroom.

“Whoa, Wile E. Coyote, what’s the rush?”

“I forgot my best shirt!”

With no idea what that meant, I shrugged and made my way to the door. I threw it open just as Shayne reached for the knocker. Instead of taking hold of the brass handle, his fingers ended up colliding with my chest.

He flushed. “Oh, sorry!”

My wolf yapped excitedly, and I scooped Shayne up into a sweet kiss. I loved how he melted in my arms, and I was just about to deepen the kiss to let him know how much I’d rather spend my time with him and not go to work, but I heard footsteps behind me. Having not told Charlotte about our relationship yet, I quickly pulled away, and Shayne gave me an understanding grin. Charlotte glared at me then pushed me aside so she could get to Shayne, and suddenly her face switched to a bright smile.

“Hi!” She pointed to her t-shirt, a ratty old thing that she’d begged me to buy from an online store a few months ago.

“Oh wow! For real? Is that from the Seattle show?”

“You bet it is. Check this one.” She jumped around and showed him the back of the shirt, and his mouth opened.

“What?” I asked, dumbfounded.

“Signed! You’re kidding me. Wow, that must be worth a million bucks. Where did you get that?”

She shrugged coyly, and Shayne chuckled.

“Are you serious? That thing is worth a million bucks?” I was aghast.

“I mean, you don’t see much original nineties merch like that around, let alone signed. A lot of collectors would put that in a vacuum pack and keep it untouched for the end of time.”

“Do not even think about putting my shirt in a vacuum pack!” Charlotte pointed at me accusingly before putting on a sweet smile for Shayne. “I got us a bunch of movies and music documentaries, so I hope you like popcorn and doing nothing.”

“Hell yeah, I do.”

Charlotte directed Shayne about where to sit on the couch for maximum comfort and best viewing angle, and I chuckled at how he wasn’t the least bit bothered. He looked content. As they play-fought over the remote, they seemed like father and daughter. In fact, as I looked at them closely, side-by-side, it occurred to me they actually could pass for father and daughter. Fair-haired, bubbly, and bright. It made me smile, but I felt my wolf’s impatience. It wanted me to come clean to Shayne about being shifters, and soon. I was kind of getting impatient too, but I had to be careful. Shayne could seriously freak out if I told him, but, if Shayne was fond of me and fond of Char, maybe it would make it easier for him to accept what we were. At least, that was what I hoped.
